This is the essence of curiosity. Remember when the gooseberries at Grandma’s allotment still grew above your head? Those little green berries looked ripe already, but the carefully practised, stern smile on her wrinkled face made one thing clear: not yet. Just like you, they still had some growing up to do. But the temptation was too great, so you darted about as nimbly as a wild animal sneaking in under cover of darkness to chew through the battery cables in your father’s car. Bittsy Pixie is the scent of curiosity. The childhood kind: a little reckless and completely immune to the words “not yet”. After all, being told you couldn’t have something was enough to make it twice as interesting.
At Grandma’s allotment, the gooseberry bushes were nearly as tall as you. Green branches bowed under the weight of small, translucent berries. They looked ready. Almost. Ripe enough to make you reach for one. Not ripe enough to get past Grandma. “Still sour.” It sounded more like a challenge than a warning. So you waited for the right moment, when no one would be watching. The grown-ups took their conversation to the other end of the garden, the summerhouse door closed behind someone, and you slipped between the bushes. Carefully, so your sleeve wouldn’t catch on the thorns. One step. Another. An outstretched hand. A little green berry landed between your fingers.
That first bite was almost electric.
The sourness made your lips pucker, your tongue protested for a second, and your eyes went wider than they had any right to. And of course, you immediately picked another. You had to check whether they all tasted the same.
That’s exactly the kind of gooseberry Bittsy Pixie smells like. Still green, fresh, tart and juicy. Not the ripe, soft fruit destined for jam. Here, the gooseberry is still clinging to the bush. Sometimes all it takes is a small gap between what you already know and what you’re not yet allowed to find out. “Don’t touch”, “don’t look”, “not yet” can simply make the question grow louder: but why? In psychology, curiosity is described as a need to close that very gap in our knowledge. When we don’t know something, a tension builds, urging us to come closer, peer around the corner or try the fruit a little sooner than we should. It’s how we come to know the world not only through what others tell us, but through our own experiences too.
Sometimes experience tells you Grandma was right: the gooseberries were sour. But at least now you know for yourself.

Bittsy Pixie is a fragrance built around a single note: green gooseberry. Not sweet gooseberry jam, not cake, not a fruit cocktail. We wanted to capture that moment just before full ripeness, when the fruit is still firm and hard, tart and so juicy that the first bite almost makes the insides of your cheeks sting. Its character is green and vivid. There’s tartness, a little fruity sweetness and that unmistakable sensation of freshly picked fruit, its skin just split beneath your teeth. We’ve used a full 30% fragrance concentration to capture the scent of gooseberry as faithfully as possible and help this fresh, fruity note linger on the skin for as long as possible. Bittsy Pixie doesn’t need vanilla, flowers or a heavy base to give it character. It’s meant to smell like gooseberries. Picked just a little too soon.
