Recipe for “The Sorceress Scent: The Mother” Doggy Siren 50 ml | Tangy Tankie 50 ml
The Mother is one of three sets in the Triple Goddess mini series from our Layering Masterclass. It contains two full size bottles of perfume: Doggy Siren 50 ml and Tangy Tankie 50 ml. You can wear them separately or layer them on your skin. Together, they create a lilac and rhubarb perfume: romantic lilac with a juicy hint of rhubarb that’s both sweet and tart. In our story, the Mother represents creation: you already know the recipe, but you can adapt it to make it your own. These are two fragrances we’ve selected to pair together, rather than a new blend in a single bottle. The set comes without an additional gift box.
Welcome to Layering Masterclass
Layering is the art of combining perfumes on your skin to create a new scent. In this series, you’ll find sets of perfumes we’ve carefully selected to work beautifully together and create a particular effect. Each set contains separate, full size bottles that you can wear individually or combine, discovering new stories through scent.
The Triple Goddess. Three faces of the sorceress
The Maiden, the Mother and the Crone. In this Layering Masterclass miniseries, we draw on the figure of the Triple Goddess, found in Wicca and other traditions, and translate her symbolism into the language of scent. Like the Moon as it waxes, reaches fullness and begins to wane, she reveals three faces of the same power: discovery, creation and transformation.
At the heart of every recipe is Doggy Siren lilac perfume. We pair it in turn with green gooseberry, rhubarb and ripe gooseberry, showing how the same lilac can change its character depending on what accompanies it.
The Mother stands at the very centre of this circle. In her fullness. This is the moment of creation, of recognising your own power and shaping what you already know into something of your own.
Each face has its time. Each will return to you in its own turn.
Lilac and rhubarb perfume = Doggy Siren 50 ml + Tangy Tankie 50 ml
Some spells are passed down from generation to generation. Others begin with the first handwritten note in the margin of an old recipe. Then another. Until it becomes hard to say where the original recipe ends and your own begins.
In our interpretation of the Triple Goddess, the Mother is the face of creation. She doesn’t keep repeating the same spell. She explores what happens when she changes an ingredient, adjusts the proportions or trusts her own intuition.
As it happens, this recipe didn’t begin at our table. It came from people in our community experimenting on their own skin. After Tangy Tankie launched, witches from our circle and beyond eagerly began layering it with Doggy Siren, sharing the results on social media and passing the recipe on. The combination of lilac and rhubarb soon took on a life of its own, becoming one of the pairings you regularly wrote to us about. Since the spell worked so well, we decided to give it a permanent place in our spellbook.
The set contains Doggy Siren 50 ml and Tangy Tankie 50 ml. Two separate bottles you can wear individually or use to create your own version of their combined scent. More lilac, more rhubarb? The recipe is a starting point, not the final word.
Doggy Siren 50 ml + Tangy Tankie 50 ml: why does it work?
This pairing works because Tangy Tankie gives Doggy Siren’s nostalgic lilac the sweet yet tart counterpoint it was missing. Lilac is floral and romantic on its own, but paired with rhubarb, it becomes juicier, with a tangy edge that cuts through the floral sweetness. Together, they smell of lilac mingled with sweet, tart fruit. Mysterious, whimsical and less predictable than a floral scent alone. The result is an enchanting blend of flowers and fruit.
How to layer perfumes: a step by step guide
Start with a 1:1 ratio to see which direction you’d like to take the blend: more floral or more fruity. Begin with just a few sprays and adjust the proportions gradually. More Doggy Siren will bring the lilac forward, making the blend more nostalgic, delicate and romantic. More Tangy Tankie will amplify the green tartness, fruity juiciness and sharper edge.
For a more floral scent, make Doggy Siren your dominant layer and use a smaller amount of Tangy Tankie as a tart, fruity accent. For something greener, juicier and more unexpected, let Tangy Tankie form the base, then add Doggy Siren as a floral mist, giving the blend an enchanting lilac character.
You can create interesting effects with this pairing both by layering the perfumes on the same spot and by applying them to different areas of the body. For a more seamless blend of flowers and fruit, layer both perfumes on the same spot. Doggy Siren’s lilac will mingle with Tangy Tankie’s green tartness to form a single accord: enchanting lilac with a tart rhubarb twist. For a scent that surrounds you and shifts as you move, try applying the perfumes to different areas of the body, such as Doggy Siren on your neck or décolletage and Tangy Tankie on your wrists. That way, the fragrances unfold alongside one another rather than immediately merging into a single scent. One moment, the nostalgic lilac comes through more strongly; the next, the juiciness of rhubarb.
Meet the other faces of the sorceress in the Triple Goddess series
There are two more faces to this story. In the Maiden: lilac and fresh gooseberry set, lilac is paired with green gooseberry. Crone: lilac and ripe gooseberry takes the blend towards ripe fruit with a subtle hint of fermentation. Explore the other recipes and choose where to begin. The same lilac. Three different spells. You don’t have to follow any of them to the letter.
