The Maiden is one of three sets in the Triple Goddess mini-series from our Layering Masterclass. It contains two full-size bottles of perfume: Doggy Siren 50 ml and Bittsy Pixie 50 ml. You can wear them separately or layer them on your skin to create a lilac and gooseberry perfume: romantic, floral lilac meets green, juicy, tart gooseberry. In our story, the Maiden represents discovery, curiosity and the moment you first find out what happens when you cast a spell. These are two fragrances we’ve selected to pair together, rather than a new blend in a single bottle. The set comes without an additional gift box.

Welcome to Layering Masterclass

Layering is the art of combining perfumes on your skin to create a new scent. In this series, you’ll find sets of perfumes we’ve carefully selected to work beautifully together and create a particular effect. Each set contains separate, full size bottles that you can wear individually or combine, discovering new stories through scent.

The Triple Goddess. Three faces of the enchantress

The Maiden, the Mother and the Crone. In this Layering Masterclass mini series, we draw on the figure of the Triple Goddess, found in Wicca and other traditions, and translate her symbolism into the language of scent. Like the Moon as it waxes, reaches fullness and begins to wane, she reveals three faces of the same power: discovery, creation and transformation.

At the heart of every recipe is Doggy Siren lilac perfume. Paired in turn with green gooseberry, rhubarb and ripe gooseberry, it reveals how the same lilac can take on three entirely different characters.

The Maiden belongs to the time of the waxing Moon. A time of curiosity, beginnings and magic you’re only just learning to shape for yourself.

Each face has its time. Each will return to you in its own turn.

Create a lilac and gooseberry perfume = Doggy Siren 50 ml + Bittsy Pixie 50 ml

Nobody gets their first spells quite right.

First comes curiosity. A question you’re supposedly not meant to ask. A door you’re supposedly not meant to open. And green gooseberries that, according to every sensible person, should have stayed on the bush for a few more days.

In our interpretation of the Triple Goddess, the Maiden is the face of discovery. Not because she lacks ability. She simply hasn’t learnt which rules are best left unbroken, so, just to be safe, she breaks them all. One at a time.

Bittsy Pixie fits this story perfectly. Its gooseberry hasn’t yet had time to grow soft and ripe. It’s green, juicy and distinctly tart. The kind you picked a little too soon, despite very clear instructions not to. Paired with Doggy Siren, it creates a lilac and gooseberry perfume in which innocent, romantic lilac meets the sharp contrast of green, tart fruit.

Lilac and gooseberry. Sound like the beginning of a familiar story? This time, you decide what happens next.

The set contains Doggy Siren 50 ml and Bittsy Pixie 50 ml. Two separate bottles you can wear individually or combine on your skin in whatever proportions you choose. More lilac, more gooseberry, less sweetness, more tartness. You have your first recipe. The rest is up to you.

Doggy Siren 50 ml + Bittsy Pixie 50 ml: why does it work?

This pairing is built on contrast. Doggy Siren brings floral, romantic, nostalgic lilac, while Bittsy Pixie brings the green juiciness and distinctive tartness of gooseberry.

The sweetness of lilac meets the tartness of gooseberry.

That contrast keeps the combination from becoming just another sweet, fruity floral. Gooseberry sharpens the lilac, giving it a tangy edge and a burst of green freshness, while lilac softens the fruit’s more assertive character.

The result is a lilac and gooseberry perfume that feels floral, green, juicy and unexpected. Familiar, yet leaving enough room for you to write your own version of the story.

How to layer perfumes, step by step

Start with a 1:1 ratio and see which direction you’d like to take the blend.

More Doggy Siren will bring the lilac forward, making the scent more floral, nostalgic and romantic. More Bittsy Pixie will emphasise the green gooseberry.

If you mainly want lilac with a hint of gooseberry, make Doggy Siren your dominant layer and add a smaller amount of Bittsy Pixie. For a greener, cheekier effect, reverse the proportions. Let Bittsy Pixie form the base, with Doggy Siren adding the floral softness of lilac.

You can also decide whether you want the two fragrances to blend straight away or unfold alongside one another. Layered on the same spot, they’ll come together more quickly in a single lilac and gooseberry accord. Applied to different areas of the body, they’ll reach your nose in turn. One moment, you’ll catch more of the romantic lilac; the next, the green tartness of gooseberry.

There’s no single ratio you have to follow. This is your first spell, not a magic exam.

Meet the other faces of the enchantress in the Triple Goddess series

There are two more faces to this story.

In the Mother: lilac and rhubarb set, floral lilac meets juicy rhubarb, both sweet and tart. This is the face of creation: you already know the recipe, but you’re beginning to change it on your own terms.

Crone: lilac and ripe gooseberry uses the same lilac, but takes gooseberry in an entirely different direction: riper, deeper and with a subtle hint of fermentation. This is the face of knowledge and transformation.
